"You" Are Just Along For The Ride....

Free-will demands "cognitive dissonance" or that of holding two polar opposite ideas simultaneously, which obviously seeks consonance or 'freely' choosing the 'correct' perspective" for relief.

It does seem apparent that "being in the moment" is nothing more than a detachment from belief circuits that ascribe to a self-based will that is free.

It also seems apparent that every "awakened" master simply realized this as fact, thereby, neuro-plastically disrupting brain chemistry and eventually altering and re-routing previously programmed circuits to generate a brain state for which "enlightenment" concepts were then superimposed for the sake of communication.

Hence,  "enlightenment" or "awakening" is nothing more than the total and complete termination of all cognitive dissonance, which can only be ended when the option of 'choice' is neuro-plastically removed entirely from the circuits.

So relax, sit back, and allow the brain to simply do what it does, since this is what has been occurring all along anyway.

You have always just been along for the ride and nothing more than that....

(vid's a bit long, but very informational as a means of gradually gaining freedom from an internalized core referred to erroneously as an I-me "self" that makes 'choices' free of stimuli influence)

There is a much bigger picture that an ego-centered core-self cannot fathom:

"We are the global network of neuro-chemical reactions. And the self amplifying cycle of acceptance and acknowledgement, sustained by the daily choices in our interactions, is the chain reaction that will ultimately define our collective ability to overcome imagined differences and look at life in the grand scheme of things" (video)

  1. From what I understand, Eckhart Tolle reached his "enlightenment" by way of a psychotic breakdown. He now lives in perpetual terror of returning to a state of stressful neuro-chemical reactions that was his lot before his collapse, and so disallows any hint of its intrusion by separating himself from its bliss-less threat. I imagine that because he has made a fortune from his awakened amalgamations, it is actually no great feat to isolate himself from the general matrix of planetary suffering and create his own kingdom of peaceful now-ness. I think his one subject is actually his dog, or so I have read. It sounds a bit ego-centric to my way of thinking, but what can one say? He is the Enlightened Tolle after all. I would be so bold as to say he may have simply lucked out on several fronts.

    That's good.

I believe it was the Dahli Lama who suggested that if every child were taught the art of meditation, there would be world peace within a generation.

But I think people are quite attached to their perceived, primarily superficial, die-hard believed differences. It's all the world has ever known; indeed, valued.

Despite my present moment cynicism, I do very much like this post.

  2. Indeed, either the causal order of the universe preordained Tolle's "enlightenment" or it was simply a random chance event

Either way, we can be certain he had nothing to do with it...

    Thanks!

  3. Mike, what is this "random chance" that's entering into the equation?

    1. Either life is an ordered event outside our control or it is a random emergence of variables outside our control. Order or randomness, either way, free-will is annihilated and if the 'self' is predicated on free-will, then it too is annihilated as an illusion

As clearly apparent in the blog posts, I hold to a predetermined causal order because I see the patterns unfolding and in that observance clearly recognize that I have had nothing to do with the past and, subsequently, can have nothing to do with the future.

      Hence, I am free.

There is only order or randomness. Many tend to relate to quantum theory, ignorant of the fact that it relies on probabilities and those probablities control "you," making free-will an empty illusion.

No matter what direction you go, "you" cannot possibly exist.

    2. I like to suggest that the universe is completely deterministic but so complex that to our minds appears mostly random. This renders the entire debate moot IMO but still fun to yack about.

Mike - can you clarify a bit "I am free" and ""you" cannot possibly exist". Are you using those terms merely as a conversational convenience? Otherwise it starts to sound a bit non-dually.

Kind of a disturbingly Calvinistic tremble to that thought.

But it has been my observation that those who achieve some measure of contentment do seem to be afforded such by Fate or by following a sort of acceptable, almost taoist, social "plan". Those who attempt to appease Fate in some manner, find that their self-determined efforts often go awry. Not sure if it is Fate or Zeitgeist, but something is at play. The artist who slow bleeds for 30 years for his art and perishes into obscurity v. the guy who draws a stick figure at random and is worth a million or two overnight.

Everything about this blog is disturbing, and rightly so. I don't know Calvinism other than it is one of those Protestant thingys that were the tools of Satan against my Catholic upbringing. Seems like a philosophical system?

Your observations may be correct. Mine indicate that contentment/fate/zeitgest/plan/etc are all seemingly random, inexplicable processes invented by the mind. Don't get me wrong, I highly advise (and follow myself) pursuing the best quality of life possible. It appears for a while in/as my mind, then pfft it's gone.

Or... the universe is entirely random but our neuro-circuitry arranges it into a comprehensive order that is completely illusory.

Absolutely nothing is as it seems...

The deterministic part is based on my understanding of physics... any particle interacting with another particle appears to respond in a predictable fashion, even given the uncertainty principle. Since our bodies (hence brains/minds) are composed of these same particles, the law of scale applies and says that the whole must also respond predictably. I surmise that the "entirely deterministic" aspect is the same as "causal order". Note that this is a purely academic exercise and doesn't have anything to do with the price of beans.

Regardless, absolutely nothing is as it seems...

Mike, you present two different appearances and two different hypotheses about the actual state of things, but for some reason the appearances and hypotheses are crisscrossed in their natures. Let's start simple: does the universe appear orderly or does it appear random?

    3. No. Every post on here postulates a causal order empty of free-will.

I merely suggest that if you don't believe in that, then 'randomness' is you're only other option. Either way, you have no free-will.

I've been permitted perception of a causal order that demands you fail to see it, until it grants you permission.

It wasn't up to me, nor is it up to you....
